Mexican Cathedralite

Just had this, hot on the wire, from Willie in Canada:

Dinshaw Vimadalal belonged to the 1960 CBS bunch, was a Prefect, outstanding athlete and astounding on the parallel bars ! He has been in N. America since 1967, first in Western Canada, then in California and after an early retirement at age 47 has settled in Mexico. He flew in like the whirlwind ( literally so, in his own aircraft ! ) and dropped in on us with his wife (Feroza) who is also Bombay born......

Mexican Cathedralite, 60er Vimadalal and his lovely wife, Feroza

Of course I remember 60er Dinshaw. Doesn't he look just great and fit as when he was at school?! Those muscles are still bristling.

Dinshaw was quite a gymnast, something I never was. I remember 58er Ratan Batliwalla, our late 59er Vasant Ghatge, 59er Peter Miovic, and 60er Dinshaw among the best gymnasts of our final years in school. Of course there were others who were good, as 59er Viney Sethi. But people like Viney had so many interests and were good at all of them, that gymnastics was just a way to be good in the other sports. I cannot, however, generalise, as someone like 59er Peter was also outstanding at swimming!!

Just to refresh you, here is the 1959 Gymnastics Team:

Front row: 59er Viney Sethi , 59er late Vasant Ghatge,
60er Dinshaw Vimadala, (I forget this 60ers name), and 60er ? Solomon
Back row: 60er Name forgotten and 60er Ajit Mehra

I just had it in from 59er Vijay (Nayar) that he should be visiting Toronto next month. Hope you can have a get together, as there seem to be so many of you in that metropolis. Remember me when you do!!

Jacob:
This morning I received from 60er Vijay Merchant, the message below that he posted on the Class Of '60 yahoogroups site.

"Hi Guys
Surprise Surprise. Full page matrimonial advt. in Sunday 31st March Times of India. Dinshaw has booked a cabin at Flora Fountain here to interview candidates to possibly be his wife????? At least this is what one can gather from the matrimonial page today.Maybe some of you know better. I am sharing this on Sunday morning and the boys and girls may like to read your comments on this after you have seen the 17th page of TOI Bombay see pictures of his huge house and the beautiful aeroplane etc..
"Can this be a joke or is it for real. We are all nearing 70 in a few years.
"Regards Vijay"

I attempted to access the Times of India page 17 that Vijay referenced, but was unsuccessful. I did a Google search on "Dinshaw Vimadalal" and saw your post "Seventh Heaven Mexican Cathedralite" of July 17, 2005.

On the picture of the gymnastics team posted with that article, here's some information that was missing. Seated fourth from the left (between Dinshaw and me) is Clifford Pasgon. And the missing first name before "Solomon" is "Eli". I don't remember the name of the person standing on the left, but his face is very familiar. Dr. Nusly Pocha, fellow 60er, keeps in contact with the many classmates all around the world, and he may be able to identify the unnamed gymnast in that picture. I will forward a link to him and see if he might be able to identify him.

Nusly was instrumental in organizing a 50th Reunion for the Class of '60 in November 2010, in conjunction with the 150th Anniversary celebrations at Cathedral.
Clifford Pasgon and his wife Avril (from among others from around the world) came to Mumbai from the U.K. for the Reunion. Clifford passed away on June 09, 2011, some six months after they returned to the U.K.

Dinshaw Vimadalal lost his wife Feroza tragically in July 2010. Here is the message from Nusly notifying us of the tragic loss:

"It is with great distress that I am writing to inform you of the tragic and untimely death of dear
Feroza wife of our classmate, Dinshah Vimadalal, in Hermosillo, Mexico.
"She was driving home alone when she got caught in a sudden, severe storm. The high-velocity winds literally swept her car off the road. She died in the crash, on Friday evening, July 30, 2010.
Feroza was a gorgeous person, generous, giving and a great support to Dinshah. The ideal wife. Her passing away will be a great loss to her family and friends and most of all, will leave a void in Dinshah’s life and heart that will be irreplaceable and irreparable.
"As if it is not enough to go through this awesome tragedy, poor Dinshah is all alone in Mexico, in handling all the formalities, that inevitably arise at such a time.
"Sherna and I spent wonderful days in their company and home and experienced, at first hand, her warmth. Our heart goes out to Dinshah.
Nusly"

After the tragedy, I got the impression that Dinshaw would not respond to communications from any of his classmates.

And now this ad has apparently surfaced in the matrimonial section of the Times Of India for the edition of March 31, 2013. I hope that Dinshaw has recovered from the immense grief he had to have endured, and that he is well.
